Three Little Birds is excited to share it has received a grant in the amount of $5,000 from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey! The donation made through The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, will be used to fund the expansion of Three Little Bird’s Bedside Bereavement Program.
This grant from Horizon will enable Three Little Birds to further collaborate with local healthcare systems to give perinatal loss families the best possible experience on the best day of their lives. In addition to continuing our volunteer gift of infant remembrance portraiture, we can now help offset some unexpected financial burdens related to miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal loss, especially as it relates to burial and cremation. This includes:
Providing the gift of infant remembrance portraiture for dozens of families
Offering a gift of $100 for families toward the purchase of a cremation urn, cremation key chain or cemetery memorial marker
Our updated printed resource package (in five languages) with QR codes to take families to the most up-to-date support information
Training for staff on how to collaborate with families, facilitate memory making/bonding and take/process photographs when our volunteers are not available
A small bereavement bag with information on how to contact someone in our nest for support, a small gift and self-care/hygiene items prepared by our volunteers
The gift of a Canon Rebel DSLR camera and accessories to be kept on site
Post partum support for parents, grandparents and loved ones through our virtual and in-person support groups to support physical, emotional and spiritual health.
As we work to expand our program it is our goal to ensure its equitable and consistent reach to local families experiencing this loss, we are seeking to launch an official partnership program with a local hospital that aligns with our mission of supporting families at no cost to them, in addition to helping them in maintaining compliance with the Autumn Joy Stillbirth Research and Dignity Act.
“Horizon is pleased to support the important work being done by Three Little Birds to continue to support perinatal loss,” said Jonathan R. Pearson, Executive Director of The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey. “Three Little Bird’s Program aligns with Horizon’s commitment to helping our members access the resources they need to manage their health. We are improving the health of the communities we serve by helping people [goal of the grant]. The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey works across New Jersey with grantees who share our commitment to improving the health and communities we serve.”
About Three Little Birds - Three Little Birds was founded in 2016 as a nest of support for the diverse families experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss, infertility and loss and pregnancy after loss in the Philadelphia/South Jersey region. supported more than 450 families locally through the loss of a pregnancy or baby. More than 250 of them, we supported through our Bedside Bereavement Program at six local hospital facilities. Our mission is tri-fold – We provide immediate and long term support for families through various programs and services. Next, we support the professional providers that support these families through training and free resources. Lastly, we stand in solidarity with the other advocacy groups worldwide working to support the family building community and its bereavement needs. This experience has allowed us to understand the unexpected financial burdens experienced by families that have a tremendous impact on their healing. It is our goal to serve as advocates to bridge that gap for families and providers when walking this journey through loss. Resources and more information can be found at Threelittlebirdsperinatal.org
