The month of October is designated as Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month to honor the millions of families across the globe walking the journey of perinatal loss (miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal/infant loss, SIDs). In an effort to raise awareness for the families in our nest locally that are seeking support, Three Little Birds made it a goal further expand into the community and attended many events!
The month started out with a co-hosted support group with Jordan Dizon of Wellness & Womb Doula services at the Mullica Hill library.
Three Little Birds was honored to be invited by the Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative to attend the launch of the statewide NJ Stillbirth Awareness Campaign in Hopewell, NJ!
Our support groups were held with additional support for families who are new to the nest, but not sure where to start or what might be helpful for them. We currently have more than 125 local families registered to our nest seeking comfort and connection with others. This month, attendees at our New to the Nest support group went home with a personalized teddy bear from our newest legacy project, Ollie Bears!
Three Little Birds was invited to give a presentation to the NJ Breastfeeding Coalition in educating lactation consultants and postpartum care providers on understanding the fog of grief, the complexities of lactating after loss and simple solutions to support families. Thank you to Chelley at Hey Mama Lactation & Perinatal Care for hosting us!
We hosted our 6th Annual Wave of Light celebration, sponsored by Jefferson Health and Inspira Health. This event saw more than 70 bereaved parents honoring nearly 50 babies as part of the global Wave of Light event!
We are so grateful to the City of Philadelphia and the Township of Gloucester for both passing proclamations at our request to recognize Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month in their respective municipalities.
And lastly, Three Little Birds donated more than $3,000 worth of perinatal bereavement support items and education to three local hospitals. The items donated were developed by Three Little Birds as a solution to common problems families face with healthcare providers, as well as in-kind donations from families in our nest.
It is our goal to continue to bridge the gap between healthcare and the diverse families in the Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey region walking the journey of pregnancy and infant loss. It is imperative that we shatter the stigma associated with these losses as it is an experience shared by one in every four families. Please consider donating to our mission so we can continue to support our unfortunate, ever growing community.
