Three Little Birds recently launched our Perinatal Bereavement Training Program for Medical Professionals and Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township, NJ.
This Training Program is also suitable for advocates who are looking to take a step into walking the journey of pregnancy and infant loss with others in our community. We have received a lot of interest from other loss parents that would like to volunteer with Three Little Birds to give back to others as a certified "Mama Bird".
Through June 17, we are accepting applications for those who wish to become a trained advocate and volunteer through Three Little Birds. This scholarship will cover the six week training will allow our advocates to support families in the Philadelphia and South Jersey region through miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss, SIDS, palliative care when receiving a life-limiting or uncertain fetal diagnosis, in addition to termination for medical reasons, SIDS and pregnancy after loss.
Each week's virtual content tackles specific topics including understanding the unique grief of pregnancy/infant loss, supporting the entire family as they walk this journey, diversity in loss including cultural, religious and personal considerations, effective communication and empowerment, as well as virtual and hands on photography training instructed by a professional bereavement photographer with more than 15 years experience.
The in-person, hands on training allowed trainees to invoke their education and empathy and utilize the tools provided in the virtual training to give families the best possible experience on the worst day of their lives. This includes role playing in different scenarios/challenges that forces participants to wear the shoes of the person they are caring for and learning how to empower families in making the best possible decision with their specific circumstances. Our trained advocates will also received printed reference guides and field support kits as part of the training program.
