As the sun sets earlier and the weather becomes colder, perinatal loss parents begin to prepare their heart and soul for the upcoming holidays. Whether is it is your first holiday since loss or your 10th, we all know, the festive lights and cheer and holiday hustle and bustle can be exhausting....even if we don't participate in it!
Thanks to our legacy project, Zara's Tootsies, the loss families in our nest had an opportunity to gather, connect and create a beautiful, personalized keepsake ornament. Zara's mom, Caitlin, is a Cricut enthusiast and can create vinyl decals of any baby's footprints. Unfortunately, Zara's parents didn't get a chance to meet her. Their nurse did take Zara's footprints, which have become a treasured keepsake for their family and one that they can share through their talents with others to provide comfort and healing.
Our Craft & Heal attendees had the opportunity to customize their ornament either with their baby's footprints or handprints. If parents did not have prints, we offered several other seasonal options like a reindeer, snowman or snowflake. Each family took the time to further customize the ornament with glitter or feathers.
Events like these are special and important. Thank you to Zara's parents, Yousuf and Caitlin for keeping her memory alive and inspiring other parents to embrace the joy they can during the difficult holiday season!
