Three Little Birds celebrates annual Wave of Light at Cooper University Hospital!

Writer's picture: Three Little BirdsThree Little Birds

What is the Wave of Light?

Annually, families across the globe light a candle at 7 PM in honor of babies gone too soon on October 15th, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. The tradition, which originated in Australia, offers families a global space to have their grief and family building journeys seen and validated, while creating a beautiful literal and metaphoric wave of light across the globe.

For the past six years, we have gathered as a local community in various capacities to offer families space to honor their journeys and connect with others. This year’s event saw dozens of loss parents, advocates, providers and loved ones gathered as a community to explore their grief and find resources, make meaningful connections with others and honor their precious child at our Wave of Light Ceremony.

Expanded Bedside Bereavement Program Launch!

Thanks to a grant from the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, Three Little Birds was able to offer an expansion of our existing volunteer program for up to 30 Cooper University Hospital families experiencing stillbirth or infant loss. Our expansion includes:

  • The continued gift of a bedside advocate to encourage memory making, bonding and provide the gift of infant remembrance portraiture.

  • Our updated resources package (in five languages) with QR codes linking to our website where we regularly update resources and contact information.

  • Training for up to 8 professional providers to collaborate with our program

  • The gift of up to $100 to offset the unexpected financial burden of burial or cremation or for the purchase of a qualifying memorial item.

  • Access to postpartum support through Three Little Birds and our continued collaborations with Postpartum Support International and the Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative.

  • A Maria Rosa's Memory Making Kit which includes items to encourage bonding like ink/canvas for hand and foot prints, a book to read to the baby and a special hat or headband for them to wear.

We currently provide our volunteer services with the gift of infant remembrance portraiture for families at Jefferson Washington Township, Jefferson Hospital - Philadelphia, AtlanticCare Mainland, Virtua Hospital - Voorhees and soon, Saint Christopher's Hospital in Philadelphia!

Congrats to our door prize winner!

Congratulations to our door prize winner, Quinnzel Robinson, who won a pair of Eagles tickets to an upcoming game. Thank you to our long time supporter and Giveaway Sponsor, Glenda Barachko at Wondertime 3D/4D Ultrasound for sponsoring our door prize! Quinnzel, or "Commissioner Q" as he is known around the nest, supports other loss dad's through his legacy project, the MFFL (Mila's Fantasy Football League). In the spring, our participants will be taken on a tour of Lincoln Financial Field, home to the Philadelphia Eagles!

THANK YOU!

Thank you to our sponsors and volunteers who made our annual Wave of Light a success, but more importantly, a safe space for perinatal loss families to honor the babies they carry in their hearts.
