Three Little Birds Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support hosted its second annual Bereaved Mother’s Day Spa Retreat and Memorial Butterfly Release this past Sunday on May 1, Bereaved Mother’s Day.
Earlier in the day, Three Little Birds hosted 12 loss mamas to a day of pampering, relaxation, connection and support during a difficult time of year as Mother’s Day approaches. Six of our moms got to discuss their individual legacy projects which bring funding, awareness and support to others through Three Little Birds.
After a brief Welcome Circle with mimosas all attendees had the opportunity to “float” in the Float Haven Spa’s Himalayan Sea Salt tanks, relax in the salt room, do a ionic foot detox, walk the outdoor labyrinth, in addition to checking out other spa offerings. Mamas gathered at lunch for group discussion and several optional activities of making a birthstone necklace for their baby, color in coloring books or create a memorial wreath. The six new mamas to our nest also received spiritual readings with Co-Founder, Kristen Samuelson, which was a highlight of the day for several of them!
The event also included a healing circle which offered several different examples of healing modalities to promote physical and emotional wellness through grief, particularly difficult weeks like this in early May. Each mom was also gifted a self-care Mother's Day box (as a gift from their children) so that they can give themselves a little bit of extra love.
Later in the day, we opened our event up to other attendees interested in releasing a butterfly in their baby’s memory. More than a dozen families gathered for the release. Several of the butterflies hung around with us for a moment before taking off, which we thought was extra special. Each attendee took home a personalized eternal flame memorial jar and a copy of the book A Mother of All Mothers by Angela Miller. Several attendees went home with giveaways including our memorial butterfly boxes, a self-care mother's day box and two attendees won a gift certificate to Float Haven Spa!
