Perinatal Bereavement Training Program
At Three Little Birds, we believe every family experiencing pregnancy and infant loss deserves compassionate, informed, and meaningful support. Our Perinatal Bereavement Training Program was created to provide both professional providers and parent advocates with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to support families in their most vulnerable moments.
Through a combination of self-paced virtual learning, required reading, reflective assignments, and testing, trainees gain insight into best practices in perinatal bereavement care. The program also emphasizes the importance of trauma-informed, family-centered care, cultural sensitivity, and advocacy. Final certification is awarded after successful completion of the final assignment.
This training is ideal for:
-
Healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, midwives, sonographers, social workers, chaplains, lactation consultants, mental health providers, etc.)
-
Community support professionals (doulas, peer support workers, nonprofit staff)
-
Parent advocates with lived experience

Scholarships Available
“A Girl Named Jimmie” Scholarship - Three Little Birds Co-Founders, Kristen & Brent Samuelson, launched the A Girl Named Jimmie Scholarship to support individuals passionate about perinatal bereavement care. This scholarship provides medical professionals, students, loss parents, and advocates the opportunity to participate in our Perinatal Bereavement Training Program. Our goal is to empower big-hearted individuals across Philadelphia, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and New Jersey to expand our Bedside Bereavement Program and help establish consistent, peer-led perinatal bereavement care in communities where such resources do not yet exist.
Applications are accepted year-round, and recipients are notified prior to the start of the next scheduled training session (2026 dates TBD—please check back for updates).
