Come and find out what's happening with
Maria has been a fierce Three Little Birds supporter and volunteer since its founding in 2015. Since joining the nest, she has become our Etsy Store Coordinator and manages our Perinatal and Miscarriage Comfort Care Box Program. As a wife and mom to two fun and energetic little boys, she's always wanted to volunteer but wasn’t exactly sure in what capacity. In April of this year, after going through her second loss, she received a Miscarriage Comfort Box from Three Little Birds, offering her comfort, support and validation. The package made her smile and cry, but then realize there were other empathetic people who cared and were there for her during one of the worst moments of her life.
Fast forward a few months when Three Little Birds was seeking volunteer support from families we have served. Maria jumped right in to help with our Miscarriage and Perinatal Comfort Boxes. It was just like that Maria not only found her role, but healing to her broken heart. Maria says, "It is such an honor to put each box together, knowing it will bring a little bit of comfort to families during their absolute worst."
In addition to our Box Program, Maria will oversee the purchases and completion of sales of other items sold in our Etsy store created to provide validation, personalization and honor to the losses faced by 1 in 4 women. Many of the items in the store are created by other families looking to create legacy projects to honor their little ones and bring lots of comfort to other families suffering from miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss, SIDs as well as families who have received a life-limiting diagnosis and are unsure of what their future holds.
Finding empowerment in the services and program offered by Three Little Birds, Maria began to find ways to incorporate her losses into her daily life. “Before I used to be very cautious with talking about our babies, especially on social media. But with time I have said (or typed) things for all to hear and read. I’ve had people I know privately speak with me about their losses and tell me how I’ve helped them just by saying or writing some of the things I have. While I absolutely hate that we have had to endure our losses I know that we are not alone and there are many other families hurting in the same way, and I feel blessed to be in a position to help others.”
She and her family were fortunate to take a trip to Disney World in September, a trip she planned just a few weeks after their loss because all she wanted to do was something “ridiculously fun” with her sons while honoring her two pregnancies that were lost too soon. For her, it was the best therapy and she saw signs thrown in her direction many times throughout the trip validating it all. There were a lot of emotions the last day in the park and as they were walking along towards the exit at the end of the day a Jimmy Buffett lyric popped into her head. “Take it all in it’s as big as it seems. Count all your blessing, remember your dreams.” If her losses have taught her anything it is to count every blessing you have in this life and always look for the silver linings. “My babies may not be here, and that’s hard, but finding silver linings are what helps me through. One of my silver linings is being able to help other families because of my experiences. I feel truly blessed.”
-- Thank you Maria, for the bottom of our hearts!!!!!
