Come and find out what's happening with
Megan’s journey into baby loss began when she received the heart wrenching phone call that her niece’s heart was no longer beating. She rushed to her sister Kristen’s side and sprang into action as to all the plans that needed to be made to prepare saying hello and goodbye to a precious and much loved family member.
“I went into auto-pilot and just tried to figure out what needed to be done for my sister and her family. The hospital was not very helpful as far as resources go and I was overwhelmed with the grief of the situation. I called the first funeral home I could think of and the informed me of the cost to have our small baby cremated. My sister asked me to call someone closer to her community and they provided all of the services we needed for FREE. From then on, I knew it was important to gather information so that families who may not be as fortunate can know where to go for help and information on what comes next.” says LaGrossa. After months of healing, Three Little Birds Perinatal and Palliative Care Advocacy and Support Center was founded and Megan joined on as a Board Member. She currently serves as Treasurer and Digital Manager and supports the organization through sharing our information, resources and digital needs. However, when Kristen approached her to become a certified Birth and Bereavement Doula like she had, Megan knew it was an opportunity to be of more help. “I knew the knowledge I would gain from this training was going to give me a better understanding of exactly what happens when these situations occur and how we can better support these families physically, emotionally and spiritually. This process has unfolded to a new level of understanding and confidence as I now can walk these journeys with the families who reach out for support in addition to honoring my sweet niece, with whom my heart loves and misses and yearns for everyday. It’s a sort of healing for me as well." While Megan is not yet a parent herself, she is no stranger to mothering others as a Special Education Teacher and Digital Specialist in the NJ public school system as well as a lover of babies and children. She is married with three cat “kids” at home! Join us in congratulating Megan on this achievement! If you are interested in how you can help families as a bereavement doula, please contact us! PLEASE NOTE: At this time, our doulas are volunteer their services and work full-time, therefore, we are unable to provide bedside birthing doula services. Our focus is bereavement and post-partum care. Should you wish to hire a birth doula, you can find one in your region here: https://stillbirthday.com/find-doula/ |
