In an effort to globally #shatterthestigma of pregnancy and infant loss, Three Little Birds Perinatal & Palliative Care Advocacy & Support Center (Three Little Birds Perinatal) is excited to announce we have our own volunteer-designed and produced Announcement cards for families suffering from the loss of a baby through stillbirth or after a stay in the NICU, as well as for families awaiting their rainbow baby and want to celebrate all their children with whom they love!
Validation is key to families suffering from the loss of a pregnancy/baby. There are no words to express the feelings of joy and sorrow that you experience, but they are both there. Parents of babies who pass away are still parents and very proud of their children. Just because they are physically not with us, the love we have for them will never go away. Society often does not give a voice to these families, so we are helping families share the love of their child as they would have had they been born living and healthy. Join me in thanking our talented volunteer, Linda Kong, for her creativity and enthusiasm in creating these beautiful announcement cards. Linda is a loss mom who volunteers in memory of her sons, Peanut, Greyson and Emmett. <3
Many people have not heard the term "Rainbow Baby", but many in the loss community will refer to a baby born unto them after experiencing pregnancy and infant loss as a metaphor for the rainbow that comes after the storm. Three Little Birds Perinatal understands and respects not every family accepts or uses this term to refer to their pregnancy after loss. We encourage families to find the language and expressions that suit them best and if you wish to have announcement cards made to celebrate your pregnancy, we can work with you to design one that does! We are open to learning and celebrating all families and their connections in their healing. Thank you to co-founder/doula/photographer extraordinaire Desiree Miller for designing our Rainbow Baby Announcements!

Thank you for your support! We love having our families come back and volunteer and share the love of their children with us and to inspire us!

Desiree may be a newly certified birth and bereavement doula, but she is no stranger to the world of baby loss.
Despite never experiencing pregnancy/infant loss herself, she has helped more than 100 families over the past decade who do through her work as a volunteer with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (NILMDTS), a 501©3 non-profit organization whose mission is to provide the gift of infant remembrance portraiture to families who lose a precious child. She was one of the first volunteer photographers in the South Jersey/Philadelphia region and has helped grow the pool of volunteer photographers up to 16, all of whom serve hospitals in their communities in the Delaware Valley.
But what families receive in addition to the gift of photography Desiree gives, is a friend and fierce advocate for families who find themselves in this nightmare. Most families over the past decade have befriended her on social media and make it a point to let others know what an impact she has had on their families and just how great the need is for families to create tangible memories of their children gone too soon.
After meeting with the new Area Coordinator for NILMDTS, Kristen Samuelson, the two developed a passion, friendship and kinship for helping these families and honoring their children. In 2016, Desiree signed on as a Board Member/Secretary and helped develop Three Little Birds Perinatal & Palliative Care Advocacy and Support Center. As this non-profit grew, so did her interest in better serving the families in need of this support.
In spring 2017, Desiree completed a comprehensive certificate program through StillBirthday.com and continues to develop the programs, resources and outreach of Three Little Birds Perinatal, all while sitting bedside with families encouraging them to bond with their children through photographs, celebrations of life, bedside memory making and post-partum support. “I knew the gift I was giving through NILMDTS was important and the families are always so appreciative, but I always left felt I could do or give more. There is so much out there we can do to create positive memories for the family during such a difficult time. All of this will help set the path for the healing journey ahead, which is so personal and unique for each family. As a bereavement doula, I can now serve families with not just my camera, but fully with my heart!, says Miller.
While she is not advocating for families and honoring each special baby she is co-owner of Image is Everything Studios in Swedesboro, NJ and dedicated mom to two very active and happy teenagers.
Join us in congratulating Desiree on this achievement! If you are interested in how you can help families as a bereavement doula, please contact us!
At this time, our doulas volunteer their services and work full-time, therefore, we are unable to provide bedside birthing doula services. Our focus is bereavement and post-partum care. Should you wish to hire a birth doula, you can find one in your region here: https://stillbirthday.com/find-doula/
Megan’s journey into baby loss began when she received the heart wrenching phone call that her niece’s heart was no longer beating. She rushed to her sister Kristen’s side and sprang into action as to all the plans that needed to be made to prepare saying hello and goodbye to a precious and much loved family member.
“I went into auto-pilot and just tried to figure out what needed to be done for my sister and her family. The hospital was not very helpful as far as resources go and I was overwhelmed with the grief of the situation. I called the first funeral home I could think of and the informed me of the cost to have our small baby cremated. My sister asked me to call someone closer to her community and they provided all of the services we needed for FREE. From then on, I knew it was important to gather information so that families who may not be as fortunate can know where to go for help and information on what comes next.” says LaGrossa.
After months of healing, Three Little Birds Perinatal and Palliative Care Advocacy and Support Center was founded and Megan joined on as a Board Member. She currently serves as Treasurer and Digital Manager and supports the organization through sharing our information, resources and digital needs. However, when Kristen approached her to become a certified Birth and Bereavement Doula like she had, Megan knew it was an opportunity to be of more help.
“I knew the knowledge I would gain from this training was going to give me a better understanding of exactly what happens when these situations occur and how we can better support these families physically, emotionally and spiritually. This process has unfolded to a new level of understanding and confidence as I now can walk these journeys with the families who reach out for support in addition to honoring my sweet niece, with whom my heart loves and misses and yearns for everyday. It’s a sort of healing for me as well."
While Megan is not yet a parent herself, she is no stranger to mothering others as a Special Education Teacher and Digital Specialist in the NJ public school system as well as a lover of babies and children. She is married with three cat “kids” at home!
Join us in congratulating Megan on this achievement! If you are interested in how you can help families as a bereavement doula, please contact us!
